Description:

From Puddingstone Festival Website:

The second annual "Puddingstones of Cheboygan County" festival will be held on
August 8 and 9, 2014 at the Festival Square in downtown Cheboygan, Michigan. Come celebrate this unique, highly collectible stone conglomerate. It was so named by the British on St. Joseph's Island in the St. Mary's river in the 1700's because of its resemblance to their native boiled suet pudding. It is found in only a few states, Ontario and England! In fact it is the official State Stone of Massachusetts. Cheboygan County just happens to be blessed with a vast number of them, ranging in size from tiny pebbles to huge boulders.

There will many other interesting stones displayed, including the Petoskey stone. Lapidary clubs, stone and mineral exhibitors will be displaying their wares. A geocaching event, and an Easter-egg style puddingstone hunt for children will be held in conjunction with the festival. A rock concert will be provided in the evening. A presentation by the Northland Players of the children's "Stone Soup" story about how a town comes together through the kind acts of its children will be performed at Festival Square Saturday afternoon.

Those of you who would proudly like to show off your own favorite puddingstone may bring it for a juried 'Best in Class by Size' contest . Or, you may just wish to carry yours around in your pocket to win friends and influence people.

We hope you will come join us for an interesting and informative festival celebrating one of the many unique features of Cheboygan County!
